PROCESS
Most of my work has been made using American or Australian clays,
or made & mixed by myself.
Between 2007 - 2017, my work was fired in a 4-burner gas kiln. It also doubled as
a studio 'heater' and friend during the cold Illawarra nights during the 18hr firings.
It was a small, sweet kiln that worked a treat for oxidation and reduction.
And I miss her.
She was sold to some wonderful potters from the Gold Coast back in 2017.
Since 2002, when I moved to Australia, my work took on an experimental quality. It felt like an eternity of testing raw materials to come up with my own glazes and clay bodies, but that's what I did in my spare time [or all night] in between my teaching schedule. Pure madness but quite sweet.
I was always looking for textures, yes, visual or tactile, texures are my thing.
In 2017 I moved to China to teach. I managed to make some ceramic pieces and participated in two art shows. The experience of working with Chinese and international artists in China was wonderful. They opened the door to opportunities for those of us, foreign artists, who were doing our best to assimilate into a new culture. Two years on now and so close to welcoming 2020,
I am now in the USA. And onto a new process with my artwork.
So stay posted and check out the gallery from time to time and enjoy the showcase of past & present works.
